Mission Community Implements Sonicu Sound Monitoring

National studies show that patients and concerned family members do notice if noise levels are high in a hospital setting.

Often, this can reflect negatively on hospital HCAHPS scores that ultimately can lead to lower reimbursement for services that hospitals provide.

Additionally, it is well documented that reducing noise levels plays an important role in patient healing because it has a direct effect on the amount of rest a patient receives while hospitalized.

Sonicu sound monitoring technology is used in hospitals across the country with documented, profound reductions in sound levels in patient rooms, NICUs, and ICUs.

Unlike other products, Sonicu sound meters are designed specifically to alert hospital staff to unsafe sound levels, with easy-to-understand color-coded visual alerts that are an effective means for behavior modification and continuous reminders.

Recognizing and responding to the growing need for effective sound management tools in their facilities, Mission Community Hospital decided to implement Sonicu's patented Sound Monitoring technology.

For more than 50 years, Mission Community has been a high-quality health care provider of note in the San Fernando Valley. They are known for their medical, surgical, and mental health care services, plus a 24-hour emergency service for their multi-cultural and dynamic community.

The SoniCloud monitoring platform consists of wireless sound indicating meters (SIMs) that stream sound level data 24/7 to the cloud.

Mission Community staff can access the platform via an easy-to-navigate, web-based dashboard from their phone, tablet, or PC. The SoniCloud dashboard allows them to view all of their monitored locations, and it displays both current and historical sound levels for their facility.

Additionally, the SoniCloud platform provides analysis and regulatory reporting tools, including Sound Target Achievement Reports.

STAR reports aggregate sound data and provides performance measurements and analytics needed to accomplish the goal of providing a quiet, safe environment for patients and staff.

STAR Reports identify when and where undesirable "Sound Events" occur, and provide rolling sound level averages that provide valuable insights for managing and improving the hospital's sound levels.

Using STAR reports in conjunction with the immediate visual alerts displayed on Sonicu's Sound Indicating Meters (SIM), hospital staff have the data they need to systematically identify and eliminate undesirable sound events that disturb patients and impact patient safety and satisfaction.

Wireless SIM meters are easy to install and do not require IT implementation support. Connectivity from the SIMs to the SoniCloud platform is achieved easily, via WiFI or 4G/5G LTE cellular connection.

Data collected by Sonicu is limited to sound pressure measurements reported in decibels (dBA). Sonicu does not record actual audio, and Sonicu does not collect, store, or transmit any patient data or other sensitive data, thus eliminating any HIPAA or privacy-related concerns.

The SoniCloud platform is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) for best-in-class security, redundancy, and reliability.
