GPS technologies have revolutionized nearly every aspect of human life, and now they're revolutionizing how Sonicu's customers think about automated monitoring.
Every SoniShield unit equipped with cellular data transmission has the ability to obtain GPS location information and send latitude and longitude coordinates to SoniCloud.
This data is visualized via SoniCloud to show the physical location of a meter in real time or over a timespan.
GPS tracking works in situations where the SoniShield meter is able to obtain a GPS lock. The tracking may struggle to connect in certain situations, including airplanes, densely packed areas, and elevators.
It's important to note that enabling GPS on a SoniShield Duo meter will impact battery life.
If you're an existing SoniShield user, you may be wondering how to enable GPS functionality on your cellular meters.
There are three key things to note:
- Users can contact Sonicu support in order to have GPS monitoring enabled.
- An additional point of paid monitoring for every GPS unit that is enabled is required
- Using the SoniCloud Mobile app, GPS tracking is enabled (or disabled) on the meter by connecting to the SoniShield meter via Bluetooth.
Future revisions of the SoniShield firmware will allow the Sonicu support team to remotely enable GPS on your SoniShield meter.
